Plunging your head under water stops the outside noise. Much of the inside noise
too. The world shifts in an instance. However long you swim, the world is paused.
It’s reviving and quite addictive. And when the big things in life land, going into the
sea can save you.
Regular swimmers know this.
If you swim alone, and you swim in good company. With yourself, and in spirit with
all those that know how submersion in water works.
Swim in a group, and you get the joy of swimming with your own movement and
thoughts, but in community.
Group swimming has really taken off in recent years. Swim groups of any number,
from two to over a hundred, meet to size up conditions, buddy up, swim and finally
de-brief over a hot drink.

There is a particular pride we all take in the capability of our bodies, and the strength
and diversity of our swim communities.
Swimmers, whether getting ready to face the water, or showering off post swim, chat
about everything. Friendships launched by shared love of swimming frequently take
a deeper course. Hang out in any women’s change room and you will witness - and
likely be pulled into! - the camaraderie.
In places where we can find ourselves rather socially ‘silo-ed’, swimming in a group
can bring connection with others across wide age groups, diverse workplaces,
beyond where kids go to school.
All through joy in swimming and regularly turning up at the same place, at around the
same time.
Swimmers are an excellent place to start for advice on swimming and of course on
swimwear and swim accessories. Always ready to share tips on what’s new, what
looks great on what bodies, what performs best – all important to know so you are
comfortable and kitted up in a way that best suits you and how you like to swim.
